What is a Database?
A database is a compilation of articles, pictures, videos, podcasts, etc. that are put together by a company. Libraries pay for database subscriptions for their patrons because the information is more accurate than other places online. However, some articles can have a bias to them. Consult your Evaluating Sources Checklist if you aren't sure what to look for.
Database Task
Use the same topic you choose for Task 3. The next step is to look up your topic in databases. Powers Catholic subscribes to two databases and they are eLibrary and NewsBank. Below you will find the links to each of the login pages. Pick up a copy of the usernames and passwords at the circulation desk or in your packet.
eLibrary
NewsBank
After accessing the two databases find 2 materials in BOTH databases on your topic. This can be a magazine/newspaper article, podcast, etc. You will then need to fill out the worksheet below.
Public Library Databases
Another great resource is your public library. Public libraries have more money to put towards their databases so they are another place to look to find more great articles for any research project. Go to the Flint Public Library, Genesee District Library or MeL and find 1 article on your topic.
